Bangor Cricket Club are delighted to welcome back former Zimbabwean A & Under 19 All-Rounder Kuda Samunderu to the club as its overseas player for the upcoming 2022 season.

Kuda who is certainly no stranger to Upritchard Park having spent the 2014 season here, is prolific top order batsman who scored 837 runs during the campaign at an average of just under 50, with one hundred and passing 50 six times. As an off spinner, his numbers are just as impressive taking 35 wickets at an average of just 16.71. In the intervening time Kuda has played Club Cricket in England as well as back home in South Africa. In 2017 & 2019, Kuda captained Durbanville CC to the National Club Championship & T20 Championship and represented the Harare Metropolitan Eagles in Zimbabwean Cricket in 2018.

Since his time in Bangor, Kuda has completed a masters degree in Sport for Development at the University of the Western Cape in which he has also set up Pinnacle Sports & Education. A non-profit organisation which specialises in the design implementation, monitoring & evaluation of Sports for Development programmes for schools, sports clubs and other community projects in the Western Cape area. They also run a popular Cricket Academy called The Peninsula Patriots Cricket Academy catering for players of all ages and abilities.

On his return to Bangor, Kuda commented ”I’m very excited and looking forward to my return to Bangor. I have very high hopes for the club and winning the league is always the goal for me. My role will be to help the team put in some entertaining performances with both bat & ball.”

With Kuda’s background in coaching and sports development, he’ll be a fantastic asset for the club this Summer with our thriving youth section. On the clubs youth section, Kuda couldn’t hide his excitement saying ”I’m delighted about hearing the clubs youth section is excelling. Junior development is something I’m very passionate about and I’m looking forward to adding value to that alongside Jonny Parker and the other Youth coaches at the club this Summer.”

Welcoming Kuda back, new Chairman James Griffin said “I couldn’t be more excited to see Kuda return to Upritchard Park this summer. From his first stint as an overseas player in 2014 I know he will fit in well at the club and have a positive impact the with his vast experience and his own cricketing ability both playing and coaching.”

The club are thrilled at Kuda’s return and he will be warmly welcomed back to Upritchard Park by all club members when he joins up with us sometime in the middle of April.
