January 2022 Club Update

Happy New Year to all our members and we hoped you had a great Christmas with family and friends. We’ve some more exciting updates to provide to you all ahead of the upcoming 2022 season which is fast approaching us.

SportNI Crowdfunder

Bangor Cricket Club have teamed up with SportNI and Crowdfunder to raise money for our 2022 youth season. In 2021 we had over 125 boys and girls take part in our youth practice and summer schemes; we are hoping our numbers will continue to grow in 2022 and we want to provide the best facilities and equipment for our young cricketers.

SportNI in the Autumn of 2021 launched the second strand of its ‘Supporting Sport to Build Back Better’ programme – Project Re-Boot: Activate. It is the next phase of National Lottery funding to help clubs ‘Build Back Better’ and is intended to support the sport sector as it emerges from the ongoing pandemic in Northern Ireland.

We are targeting to raise a minimum of £2,500, if we are successful SportNI will match our £2,500 to give us £5,000 for youth cricket this year. This link will take you to our page and give more details of our project and a way to donate to the cause.

We are organizing two events to help us reach our target which will be outlined down below. Along with the 2 events you can also donate £25 to become a match day ball sponsor, as a sponsor you will purchase a cricket ball to be used for a 1st XI game during the 2022 season. Sponsors will be invited to the match and able to present the ‘moment of the match’ award at the end of the game.

Club Weekend of Festivities

In support of our Crowdunder, we will be hosting our Club Weekend of Festivities on Friday 4th & Saturday 5th February where we’ll be hosting our Club Quiz on the Friday night and on the Saturday our kids fun run at Upritchard Park.

**Please take note of the new date for the Quiz which has been pushed back a week from the previously announced date of Friday 28th January.

With ‘Dry January’ ending why not let your hair down on the first night out at the Club Quiz hosted by Club Legend Paddy Dixon.

Entry to Quiz and purchase of Raffle tickets can be done via the Rewards Section on the Crowdfunder page. The maximum team size is 6 people and to help us maximize the number of participants we would ask teams to try and have 6 people per team.

To enable us to manage the allocation of tables could all teams please register with James Griffin (07775 752 007) prior to the quiz.

The fun run on the Saturday will be a great way for the kids to blow off some steam round Upritchard Park on either 1k, 3k or 5k runs.

The event will be coordinated through our Spond App and parents will be able to register their kids for the appropriate distance.

Children can ask family & friends to sponsor them for the Fun Run, sponsors can make donations on the Crowdfunder page as ‘Supporters’ and add words of encouragement in the comments section. It will be a fun afternoon at the club with the bar open and plenty of space for the kids to play after the run.

Those coming for the Quiz are asked to arrive at Upritchard Park from 7pm for a 7.30pm start with Saturdays fun run starting at 2pm.

New Astro Pitch

The work to lay down the second Astro pitch at Upritchard Park started on Monday and all being well, the work will be completed fully in plenty of time before the start of the new season.

The new pitch provides us the opportunity to enhance practice and junior match playing facilities during the season with two Astro pitches either side of the playing square.

Pre Season Nets

Pre Season Nets started on Tuesday 11th January at Bangor Grammar and will continue for next number of weeks until some time at the end of March every Tuesday night from 7pm-9pm. The sessions will be led by Coach & Club Captain Jonny Parker with all senior members encouraged to attend and any new faces more than welcome to come along.

Also at the nets will be a vast array of new clothing from Shrey for members to try on for sizing over the next few weeks.
