2021 Season Review
2 min readYesterday marks the last bit of action for 2021 on another successful season for the club. On the senior side there were 2 promotions and the 4XI team came back into the fold with the extra amount of players at the club and our promising young players coming through. A huge amount of thanks and appreciation must go to all 4 captains Adam McCusker, Andy Pyper, Paul Houston & Andy Hare, for giving up their time to captain and organise each team this season.
Indeed as well the whole committee led by Chairman Jeremy Stewart who have worked tirelessly through the difficult and uncertain times of the last 18 months to keep the club in rude health with increased membership and a flourishing Youth section.
Massive thanks to the grounds team led by Stephen Burns & Jeremy Stewart for their phenomenal work at Upritchard Park this season and keeping the ground immaculate all year round. The drainage works at the far corner have already started to make a massive impact this year, keeping some games on at times during wet spells most notably the Intermediate Cup Final when the majority of games across the NCU fell foul to the weather.
From a Youth perspective the club is getting stronger & stronger with 150 kids attending Tuesday & Sunday training, playing matches across 3 age groups and our summer schemes this season. The Youth section is the lifeblood of the club and a huge amount of thanks & gratitude goes out to Peter McIlwaine for his leadership & organisation, the coaches & players at the club who were on hand to take the sessions across all age groups and the parents for helping out as well!
An historic moment for the club back in May when the first ever Bangor Girls XI took to the field against Holywood to play their first game of a few this year. Currently we have 20 members and this year marks the beginning of an exciting period for the club as we look to expand on our girls & women’s cricket teams.
In the coming weeks, post season ground works will start which will also include some further improvements to UP and some indoor training sessions for our juniors coached by Jonny Parker. Before in early 2022 pre-season training begins for our seniors.
The next date for the diary is Friday 24th September at 7pm where we’ll have our club awards night, members are encouraged to come down and celebrate the successes of the season. This year will be slightly different with some restrictions still in place we’ll be holding the event in the Club Bar. Players & Members are encouraged to come down for a few drinks and we’ll order in pizza’s as well as giving out the usual awards!
