2024 Bangor CC Awards Night

4 min read

A brilliant evening on Friday as we gathered as a club for the final time of the year and celebrated the successes across the club over the course of the season. Many thanks to those behind the bar and caters on the night who made things run smoothly with the food & drink.

What a season, with plenty of silverware across the club. The Men’s 1XI completing a league & cup double, the Women’s 1XI being confirmed league champions, the 2XI also league champions, the 4XI being promoted to Junior League 8 in their last game and of course the U11 Boys side who also picked up a league & cup double for the second year in a row. The most amount of silverware won this season since that historic 2004 season.

We’ve had the most teams represent the club this year with 7 Senior & 8 Junior sides. There were 8 representatives for the NCU under age sides and Sam McMillan was also part of the Ulster Schools team.

The night was also Robbie’s last at the club for the season as he and his wife Cindy – who recently joined up with RVH to visit N.I – they had their final night at UP celebrating everyone successes at the club. What he has been able to help contribute this season in the Men’s, Women’s & Junior sides has been incredible and we can’t thank him and his family enough for all they’ve done.

With all the incredible amount of cricket played now, we’re incredibly thankful for all the help we get through the many volunteers across the club. This season we had an incredible 47 coaches on a Monday & Tuesday for our Junior training sessions and helping out on a match day. A big thank you to Beachy as Youth Cordinator with over 250 kids in the section, there is a lot to organise. Johnny Parker too for not only being the Men’s 1XI skipper but also for his coaching efforts all year round. As amazing as Barney is, he can’t do it all by himself and we’ve also had so much help with the ground this season at UP making it one of the best grounds in the country! Too many names to mention but thank you to you all during the year! There’s a very active committee that does a lot of work, much of it out of view & behind the scenes and a lot of thanks goes to them too.

A big thank you as well to our local schools who are a big help all year round too. Bangor Academy for use of their excellent nets facility, especially during the off season. Bangor Grammar School as well for use of their pitch often as our second ground which we are very thankful for with the amount of games we can stage there. One more thank you to Christine behind the bar who is a great help all season long ensuring our tea’s and drinks are set out ready to go on a Saturday.
