2 min readBangor III’s second match of the season saw them travel to play Lisburn III’s at Woodvale Park in an early Lindsay cup encounter where Lisburn elected to bat first in a 35 over match.
The young bowling pairing of Will Simpson and Chris Pyper got Bangor off to a great start with 2 maidens and a wicket to Chris (Final figures 7-1-31-1) in the first three overs and maintained an early grip on the run rate. After ten overs Will (Final figures 7-1-20-1) had got another wicket and the score was 28 for 2. A similar pattern continued for the next ten overs with Matt Pitts adding a similar level of restriction to the Lisburn team who reached 68 at the 20th over for 4 with Matt (Final figures 7-1-22-3) claiming 2 victims (1 bowled and 1 caught behind) in the period.
With 15 overs to go and 6 wickets in hand Lisburn started to accelerate the run rate but were kept in check by noticeable catches from Danial Young, Matt Pitts and Andy White that kept the wickets coming. Andy bowled particularly well with good pace, line and direction ending with figures of 5-0-20-2 in a period that saw Lisburn add 85 runs for 5 wickets bringing their score to 153 for 9 off the 35 overs.
Opener, Stephen Hamilton, proved to be the backbone for 2/3rds of innings will a well-paced innings that maintained the score in line with the required run rate despite losing the first two wickets quite cheaply. The first noticeable partnership of 38 with Danial Young (24 runs) set the platform which was continued with Matt Pitts (partnership of 24) before Stephen fell for 30 with score at 91 after 22 overs. The was a short period where Lisburn looked to be getting the upper hand, restricting the scoring, before the new partnership of Ian Fletcher (24 Not Out) and Matt (50 Not Out) started to see the runs flowing with a flurry of boundaries. With one run required in the 31st over Ian finished the chase with a 6 but man of match honors went to Matt Pitts as Bangor progressed to the second round of the cup.
