No Cup Upset for Bangor 3s
1 min readInstonians 3’s, the early season league leaders in the section above Bangor, visited Upritchard Park to take on Bangor 3’s in the second round of the Lyndsey Cup.
Bangor opted to bat and despite the loss of a couple of quick wickets reached the end of the eighth over at 65 for 2 thanks to the aggressive batting of Kris King (36 runs) ably supported by Chris Pyper (39 runs). With a platform to get towards two hundred plus from their 30 overs Bangor battled away but lost wickets on a regular basis without anyone going on to make a big score. Chris finished as top scorer on 39 with other useful contributions from Matt Pitts (22 runs) and Andy Pyper (21 runs) to bring the Bangor innings to a close at 176 for 9 in 30 overs.
Instonians went about their reply in a measured way and maintained the run rate in line with the required 6 an over despite the endeavors of the Bangor bowling attack. Bangor had to wait until the fifteenth over until their breakthrough with a well taken catch off the bowling of Andy White. Only one more wicket fell, being that of opening batsman K Kelly (82 runs), who was the lynchpin of the Instonians innings, before Instonians passed the required mark in the 28th over. Bangor are now left to focus on the league for the rest of season.
