Seconds Go Back to Back in the League at CIYMS
2 min readBangor came away victorious from a blustery Belmont the victors by 63 runs as the second eleven team continued their good form recently which now sees them with 3 wins from 5 games and comfortably in mid table.
Skipper Pyper chose to bat first on a hard & true wicket with plenty of grass on it to aid the ball coming on to the bat. Patrick McMillan and Mark English fresh from his century strode to the wicket in confident mood. Both batsmen got off to a quick start but unfortunately neither man could kick on after getting in and fell for just under 20 runs each. When Kris King unfortunately fell cheaply at this point Bangor were 81-3 after 12 overs and were well on their way to a big score to defend.
Michael Martin similar to the preceding batsmen got off to a very quick start picking up four boundaries before he fell looking to maintain his attacking approach for 17. The Bangor innings was in danger of faltering at this point at the halfway point of the innings with 4 wickets taken by CIYMS. Enter center stage Paddy English, who would have been inspired by brothers Mark’s efforts the week prior immediately put the CIYMS bowlers under pressure with effortless booming drives through the off-side and down the ground. The scoring was set at around eight and over as the ball was sent to all parts of the ground. Paddy would be dismissed for a very well made 39 scoring all his runs in the space of around 7 overs.
The score was now 141-6 with 4 overs remaining and thanks to some lower order hitting from Andy Pyper, Michael Skelly and especially James Griffin, 175 is what Bangor finished up on from their 25 overs, a big score to defend.
Michael Skelly and George Prince opened the bowling and kept things relatively tight as the CIYMS batsmen struggled to get going. It wasn’t until the 7th over when Stephen Skelly picked up the first wicket with the score on 32. Wickets continued to tumble for CIYMS in their top order as Stephen picked up two more all bowled to finish up on 3-22from his five overs. Paddy English cemented his man of the match performance, picking up the fourth and what proved to be final wicket of the innings as he recorded 1-12 off his 5 overs.
The seconds are next in action at home to Carrickfergus 2XI this Saturday and will be looking to continue their winning streak, all support is very welcome.
