Bangor V Carrick (Quoile Cup) 28th May 2013

Bangor Under 11s started their 2013 campaign at Ward Park on a bright, sunny and ultimately cool evening.  Truth be told for most of the team it was the start of their "Cricket career" and the unfamiliar look of the side is partly explained by Michael Canning's family move to Belgium, Adam Simonite's "transfer" to CSNI and the mystery of Rahul Ghonia's non-appearance for the new season.
Visitors Carrickfergus won the toss and elected to bowl which they may well have regretted as Johnny McCracken and Chris Pyper put together a stand of 28 for the first wicket before the diminutive McCracken was bowled by Burton.  Good aggressive running between the wickets had been their trademark and captain Pyper carried this theme on with useful support from Harry McCracken, Paddy Boyd and Lukas Kenny.  When Pyper eventually fell for an excellent 22 the in-experience of the rest of the batting saw 60 for 4 wickets become 64 all out!
In the field Bangor also began very well.  Paddy Boyd bowled Douglas in the first over and repeated the trick in the third to remove Simms.  A stand of 41 runs by the impressive Rolston and harrington sealed the outcome of the match but Bangor bowled and fielded well.  Lukas Kenny bowled his 4 overs for just 9 runs, Boyd for 11 and Johnny McCracken for 12.  Pyper took a sharp return catch to capture Harrington's wicketand Robinson was smartly run out but Carrick were home with just under 3 overs to spare.
Bangor 64 all out. C. Pyper 22, J. McCracken 14; C. Burton 3 for 15, M. Harrington 2 for 8.
Carrickfergus 65 for 4 wickets B. Rolston 37*;  P. Boyd 2 for 11, C. Pyper 1 for 11.
Many thanks for the level of parental interest, support and help with the "little jobs" which enable these matches to be played.  Of special note is Paddy Robinson's stint with the scorebook for which I was very grateful.
Practice with Michael Clarke continues every Wednesday, 5 00 p.m at Upritchard Park and there will be several league matches to look forward to in the next few weeks.
